Welcome! First English Lutheran Church, Spencer, Iowa

On behalf of our congregation, we welcome you to our website and are glad that you have found us! Here are at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa, we have three missions — congregational worship and life; First English Christian Preschool; and Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School grades K-6. Our vision for ministry is found in our mission statement: "Three Missions — One Goal: to reach out, transform, and educate disciples for Christ."

It is our mission, as God's family, to be people of Christ, who share the love of Christ. We do that through both word and deed. This site will help you to understand how we as a congregation are striving to live out this mission. We are hoping, that perhaps, you might join us as "the people of Christ sharing the love of Christ."

The Lord has placed us here to bring people to salvation in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the faithful preaching and teaching of God's holy Word, and through the proper administration of the sacraments of Holy Baptism and the Lord's Supper. We are here that the Holy Spirit might accomplish His life-saving work among us by creating faith in the hearts of unbelievers and strengthening faith in the hearts of our members.

As Christians, the Lord has called us to share His love: first, to the members of our congregation, then to the members of our community here in Spencer, Iowa, and then to the world abroad through mission support (see Acts 1:8). God has called us (His holy Church) to share the love of Christ in both word and deed.

If you would like more information, feel free to contact me about our congregation, or either of our schools. I would love to answer any questions you might have about the Christian faith. Please don’t hesitate to call or write.

May God bless and keep you,
Pastor Paul Kaldahl

FaceBook Worship Archives Foundations of Faith

It’s what we believe. Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.

Grace alone

God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.

Faith alone

By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.

Scripture alone

The Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.

Three Missions - One Goal Building God’s Kingdom Today
The biblical mission of every Christain church on earth is to preach and teach, law and gospel, in such a way that sinners will repent and believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior from sin and from eternal death.  We do that by supporting the three missions.  All three of these mission ministries are located on our campus: First English Lutheran Church, Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School grades K-6, and First English Christian Preschool.  Indeed, our three ministries have one goal: to preach salvation through Christ Jesus our Lord.  And all three missions fall under one mission statement, "Three Missions — One Goal: to reach out, transform and educate disciples for Christ."
