Missions We Support

We at FELC support a wide varity of local, national and international missions in including the following:

First English Lutheran Preschool

Let the little children come to me, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”  Matthew 19:14

First English Christian Preschool is dedicated to bringing Jesus Christ to the children of our communities.  Our age-appropriate curriculum helps in the total development of your child.  We have reading and math activities that prepare children for a lifetime of positive learning.  The specialized visual phonics and Creative Curriculum give children a boost in readiness for life.

Our Christian staff is dedicated to showing children the love of Jesus.  We strive to provide a safe, Christ centered environment for the children of God to come and learn beginning life skills as well as Jesus' love for them in a Christian dwelling.  Our teachers strive to make learning fun and exciting with lots of exploration and discovery learning.

Preschool classes are provided for 3-4 year olds and 4-5 year old Pre-K students.  Students must be of age by September 15th.  The Pre-K classes are Monday through Friday either full day from 8:30 am to 3:15 pm or half day from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.  The 3 year old classes are two days a week either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 to 11:00 am. There is an option for early care for working parents from 7:45 to 8:25 am.   Busing is provided after the morning classes for students in Spencer to be delivered to the YMCA or other select daycares.

Please contact the preschool at 712-262-3699 or at felcpreschool@smunet.net with any questions or for more information.

Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School

We invite you to consider Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School (K-6) as your school of choice.  Our classrooms, gym, and stage are located in the new 22,000 quare foot school facility of First English Lutheran Church.  Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School strives to offer the best possible care for your children.

IGLLS provides:
  • Safe learning environment
  • Daily devotions and weekly chapel
  • Personalized instruction
  • Phonics based reading program
  • Christian teachers
  • Ipads and Chromebooks in the classroom
  • Excellent curriculum
  • Archery in the School program

Our Lutheran School is a great place to grow because:

  • We are driven by a committment to the Gospel and focused on a mission of bringing hope and healing to students and their families.  That is why we offer daily religion classes and weekly chapel, and before classes begin each day we meet for circle devotions.
  • We are goverened by board members, who are members of FELC and other local LCMS churches.  Our school board clearly understands their roles, as they focus on the vision and board policies that effectively govern the operation of the school.
  • We are engaged in effective strategic planning which enables IGLLS to maximize our ability to achieve our mission.  Our school is fully accrediited by the Iowa Department of Education and the National Lutheran School Accreditation in 2017.
  • We meet or exceed state and national academic standards at all grade levels.
  • We help to develop a minimum of 30 developmental assets in children, which is why the staff is currently working on the Iowa Core Curriculum.
  • Lutheran Schools across the nation lead a minimum of 3% of their students to professional church work, and our students are introduced to the Concordia University System.
  • We lead students to share Christ and their faith story to an unbelieving world, and our students regularly share their faith and the message of Christ through song in community performances.
  • We train future leaders for our Spencer Community Schools, and our graduates enjoy a smooth transition into middle school.
