G.I.F.T. Kick Off & Parent Meeting - If your student is interested in participating in our Midweek program, Growing In Faith Together, please join us Wednesday, September 23rd at 5:00 p.m. This first night we will run a shortened schedule. We will meet with kids and parents at 5:00. The kids will go through their schedule, and the parents will sign their student (s) up and have a short meeting. Parents will also sign up for snacks, desserts and kitchen duty. Supper will be provided.
If you are interested in singing in the choir please join us in the sanctuary. We will meet every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. If you have questions please talk to Director Lisa Meyer.
Kristin Kaldahl’s Monday night Bible study will be starting September 21st. We meet Monday evenings at 6:30. We will be studying “Golden Fruit” by Julie Hale Maschhoff. Lessons about the Fruit of the Spirit. Please sign up in the Opportunity Corner if you are interested.
The Board of Christian Life and Outreach will be supporting Operation Christmas Child (filling Christmas boxes) beginning in October. If you are interested, you might consider purchasing some school supplies while you can find them on sale. In addition to filling a Christmas Box, Donna Connelly, Operation Christmas Child Prayer Coordinator of Northwest Iowa is asking for your prayers.
What if one of the most powerful ways you could help a child hear about Jesus is simply to pray? Operation Christmas Child is preparing for another season of sharing the Gospel through shoebox gifts; and behind every shoebox is a child, a family, a community-and an opportunity for God to change lives. I am looking for men and women who feel called to stand in the gap through prayer for the children, families, churches, volunteers, and ministry teams engaged in this mission.
Would you consider joining my Operation Christmas Child Prayer Team? You don’t need special training or a lot of extra time. I simply need people who are willing to pray faithfully and specifically. Together, we will pray for:
— Open doors for the Gospel and hearts prepared to receive it.
— Children who receive shoeboxes to encounter the love of Jesus.
— Churches and community groups to catch the vision for evangelism and discipleship.
— Volunteers and ministry teams to have wisdom, strength, unity, and encouragement.
— Safety and protection for everyone involved in collecting, processing, transporting, & distributing shoeboxes.
— The Greatest Journey discipleship program and the children who choose to follow Jesus.
— New believers to boldly share Christ with their families and friends.
— God to raise up people of peace and open doors and communities that have not yet heard the Gospel.
Your prayer matters. Every shoebox represents an opportunity, but prayer prepares the way for the Gospel to go forth. If God is stirring your heart to be part of this ministry through prayer, I would love to have you join me. Whether you can pray every day, once a week, or simply commit to praying during key times throughout the Operation Christmas Child season, there is a place for you on my prayer team.
Jesus said in Matthew 9:37-38, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into His harvest.”
Let’s cover this entire ministry in prayer and trust God to do what only He can do-transform lives for eternity through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School’s Reaching Higher Shining Brighter capital campaign continues to raise funds for the new school addition. Even though we are currently in the new classrooms, the capital fundraising committee continues to make calls and is seeking donations from those who support Christian Education. We are now set up to receive gifts of grain, real estate, stocks, bonds, mutual funds and cash. Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) from IRA accounts are another way to support the campaign.
Our goal for the initial phase of construction for the six classrooms, restrooms and storage rooms is $1,900,000. We currently stand at $1,257,000 in contributions and pledges received from 78 giving units. IGLLS currently has 153 students enrolled that represent 26 different congregations from 12 (twelve) communities in Spencer and the surrounding area.
If you would like to become involved with the campaign, know of someone who would like to make a gift or pledge to the campaign or would like to know more about IGLLS in general, please let our Principal Sarah Popp or our office manager, Holly Pearson know and a member of our capital campaign committee will follow up with them.
